Hurricane Sandy on Staten Island

A VFW on MIll Road served as a makeshift command center for Guyon Rescue, a relief operation organized and run by neighbors in the days after the storm. Started with a few tables of food and cleaning supplies on Guyon Avenue, it became a 24-hour relief center providing hot meals and a free store of supplies to storm-hit Staten Islanders, and a locus for volunteers from New York and across the country.
