Floodwaters filled the shelves of a cabinet in Cathy Fossella's home on Tarlton Avenue, Staten Island. Fossella lost countless family photographs and precious objects. She was reluctant to let volunteers gut the walls of her home, hoping it would dry in time to host a family Christmas but conceded when they warned her of the inevitability of mold and decay.
